What is it that you want? What is it that you give? Where do you plan on finding it? How do you plan to live? |
when faced by the question RTW or couture? I always answer, I want my clothes to be wearable, but my direction is "the future"
I've always said sell-ability is a measure of success. But what I always come up with isn't always wearable. So dilemma.
The forever dilemma of the creative individual. Selling-out or staying true and going hungry.
I want to... make a balance. Can I? May I? Will I be able to?
I have this friend. I've always been his fan since college. There were 3 of them mga bakleur Fine Arts palang alam nang fashion ang pupuntahan. Kermit Tesoro, Mike Lavarez and Geof Gonzales. I've always liked Geof's clothes best. (shhhh) He is anything but wearable. And when looking at his work you have to stop and think about it. Understand it. Then EUREKA! Then a long drawn WOOOOW.
For the longest time he gave up on fashion altogether, and did styling for pre-nups just so he could earn moolah. AND THEN he went back to what he knew best. And look at him now! http://lifestyle.inquirer.net/17051/edgy-style-wins-look-magazine-awards%E2%80%93geof-gonzales-off-to-central-saint-martins On his way to Central Saint Martins. Shet.
So proud of you Geof Gonzales. And you just inspired me to make a decision.
To stick with what I know best. To go by my instincts.
I will still think about the bills and supporting myself with this career.
But it won't be the basis of my work.
Necessity will never fuel design. Desire will. chos.
I leave you with this. Gareth Pugh's SS 2011 pre-show presentation. Oh also a Central Saint Martins alumni. Featuring Crystal Renn. The damn fine plus-size model.
