Matthew Barney

I have a friend who spins, DJ Mike Lavet
http://soundcloud.com/mike-lavet

Juxtapoz Magazine on FB had an article on a Seattle based sculptor tonight. Mike Leavitt.

I know it's kindof a stretch but whatever.

I do follow the urban vinyl culture. (even if I don't own even one designer toy, not even a Munny.) I can't name drop this and that street artist turned international collaborator of big ass cool urban brands and fashion houses. I know enough. I recognize this and that.

Mike Leavitt does somewhat caricatures of people, to put it loosely.

That's Kim Jong II, Mark Ryden (2 of em) another urban vinyl designer for his Art Army collection, Van Gogh and Amy Winehouse.

Not so crazy about his work.

Too literal. Ugh.

But on second thought, maybe if I saw them in real life I'd be less critical and more of a fan.
(and I saw his working sketches, and I think they had more character than the actual 3d versions!)

I do however appreciate this series.

Art Army Royalty

why? cos each Art "soldier" is worth googling. Just to enrich you modern & post-modern art knowledge.

PS
I think most of them we discussed in Art History I just have a really shitty memory

PPS
The only artists who I remember/ didn't need googling we're Damien Hirst, Christo, Jeff Koons, Takashi Murakami, and Yayoi Kusama. Shet. Ang konti lang ng alam ko.

Fingerings

Today I went to QC to pick-up the acrylic and resin rings my sculptor friend made.
Then tomorrow and for the entire month I'm gonna sell them in school. *excited excited*
Bad-ass, cutesy skull rings. Me thinks I like the name ---- Raw Davids as a brand name for em.
Sorta reminds me of Doc Martens.

***not to self, upload actual images of them rings***

Sketch of a ring for my Spanish inspired line,
La Dolce Vita Espanya.

Hi, I'm Ursula Perez

Paul Arden once wrote you are who you want people to perceive you to be.

He was a an advertising maverick, a former creative director in Saatchi who was once described as being crucial in the rebirth of design-led advertising.
I'm not sure if it was in his IT'S NOT HOW GOOD YOU ARE, IT'S HOW GOOD YOU WANT TO BE book, or on his second book, WHATEVER YOU THINK, THINK THE OPPOSITE.

Today a jerk salesman was trying to sell me a membership for something. I don't know what he really wanted from me: a done deal, or a fight. His manager wasn't any better either. When I said no, I don't want your shit (now I wish I said those exact words!) she said well I'm pretty sure you can't afford it anyway, like I said it's not for everybody, you're just a student anyway. Still smiling with that fake smile that doesn't reach her badly made-up eyes with the spidery lashes, that fake smile that shows all her front teeth. Then she abruptly stood up, turned her back on me. Passive aggressiva much?

These days I am a student, and a scholar.
A few months ago "I work in advertising"
on some days now, some girl with a walkie talkie, barks into her radio "pa-meyk-ap! retats!" and I come a-running.

You are who people perceive you to be.

I've eaten chunks of humble pie in the past year, and I gotta admit, it's been good for me.

You don't have to tell everybody your entire curricula vitae after your last name. They don't need to know where you come from. What you've done. Shit you've achieved. Wolves you've run with. Being somebody they do not know is your advantage.

Choose when to wear your clout, and know when to give out just your name, and end with that.

at this point I gotta choose... nothing to lose!

I must say, I do have a thing for alter-egos.

When I found out about Jo Calderon, the humble mechanic from Sicily who posed for the cover of Vogue Japan my-oh-my, you really are my personal hero, Mother Monster.

It seems like video after video you come out with, has some connection with what I'm dealing with in my life during that particular moment. So naturally, your songs become the OST for that particular state of mind.
And now this, an alter-ego! Just in time when I felt the need to make Ursula Perez's blog.

I love you Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta.

Lovelots,
Ma. Stefanie Isiderio Caintic

enchanté!

You got me down on the floor
So what'd you bring me down here for?
If I was a man I'd make my move
If I was a blade I'd shave you smooth
If I was a judge I'd break the law
And if I was from Paris
 I would say
Oooh la la la la lala
You got me up on your swing
So when you gonna shake that thing?

So I met somebody for the first time tonight. He just came back to the Philippines oh-so-recently cos he was on a  Fine Art scholarship in Paris, France. That little bitch. He was in Europe less than a year, spent Christmas and New Year there. Got black-out high in Amsterdam, sketched a shit-load in Florence, rode a gondola in Venice,  met somebody special that's making him bend his unattached polygamous rules in Paris, oh and did I tell you that the school he went to produced the likes of Monet and other masters I honestly can't name drop cos they're just too many? And that his own personal studio provided by the school was right across the Louvre? Like I said, that little bitch.

Ugh.

I envy his so fucking much. But on the other hand. I LOVE talking to people who leave the Philippines to study, or anything school/academic related! (like my other friend who went to Rome to present a paper on Freedom, freedom!) When they come back, when they come home to real life, they just seem so... rejuvenated. Like they have this special sheen or coating that's making them a bit oblivious to the crap that usually gets to us on a day to day basis, cause when you think about it, reeeeally think about it, what's hindering us from all these things we always dream about doing is our own petty fears.

I've always wanted to study in Europe.
I've always wanted to study Fashion too.
Now I'm in the School of Fashion and the Arts, on a scholarship.
I got that, because I tried out for it. That simple.
How simple would it be to study in Europe then? Ey?

That's my itinerary for next year.
It took him 6 years to realize that dream.

And then my Ipad played this after...

Here we go again
I kinda wanna be more than friends
So take it easy on me
I'm afraid you're never satisfied.

Here we go again
We're sick like animals
We play pretend
You're just a cannibal

And I'm afraid I wont get out alive
No I won't sleep tonight

Here we are again
I feel the chemicals kicking' in
It's getting' heavier
I wanna run and hide

I do it every time
You're killing' me now
And I won't be denied by you
The animal inside of you

Oh, oh, I want some more
Oh, oh, what are you waiting' for?
Take a bite of my heart tonight
Say goodbye to my heart tonight

Hush, hush
The world is quiet
Hush, hush
We both can't fight it
It's us that made this mess
Why can't you understand?
Whoa, I won't sleep tonight

I wont sleep tonight

Here we go again

I remembered something else I should be doing something more of in my personal life. Maybe if applied the same level of commitment and persistence in other areas  of my life, and not only in my career. I dunno. I really dunno.

Maybe I'd be your movie star and you'd be my director. chos.

And someday we'd go Dancing in the Moonlight. (by the Smashing Pumpkins)
stupid youtube has no video for it

I do believe in the power of your iPod on shuffle. I believe they are cosmic.
They tell you things and you should listen.

It took me four songs to get through this entry.
